My First Christmas with Jesus

I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below,
With tiny lights like heavens stars reflecting in the snow.
The sights are so spectaular, please wipe away the tear,
For I am spending christmas time with Jesus Christ this year.

I hear the many christmas songs that people hold so dear,
But the sounds of music can't compare with the christmas songs up here.
I have no words to tell you the joy their voices bring,
For it is really beyond compare to hear the angels sing.
I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart,
But I am not so far away, we really aren't apart.

Mass in Mervue

I have to say that there is nothing nicer than the effort that the church in Mervue makes to celebrate Christmas and Easter for children in the parish. Amazingly, people travel from other parts of the city to join in with the community for these celebrations. Mass was so packed today and alot of it was thanks to the efforts of the church to host the most beautiful mass. The choir was amazing and the alter was full of easter eggs that families brought with them, which would be handed out to the less well off later on in the morning. It gave the children of families a chance to share and learn that not everyone is as fortunate as them. The real treat however for all of the children was at the end of mass when the Easter bunny was waiting outside the church with baskets of sweets for all to share end for the day that was in it!

I can safely say that I have never seen such fabulous joy and laughter in a church, except for maybe a wedding. It was a wonderful site to see neighbours, acquaintences etc gather outside after chatting and laughing. Christmas is even more special for the children's mass, which also features another special guest.....! So on that note, I am grateful for all I have in my life and finally I can acknowlegde how proud I am that I come from Mervue! Life is good!

Saturday Morning Market

There is nothing nicer than going into the market in town on a Saturday morning for the food, fare and people about. I have to say, for years I stuck to the well known Crepes, Olives, Bagel and Veg stalls. Now however, I have moved on to the Boerewurst (South African Sausage) stall, the Organic Veg & Fruit stall and I have tried more of the fresh cooked foods stuff! This is just one of the many lovely fresh stalls offering local producers to sell their goods. Well worth supporting the local suppliers. Ah the market is just fantastic for food and socialising!

Painting on Sunday Mornings with Mom!

Disneyland Paris 14th-17th February 2009

What an amazing time we had! We arrived into a beautifully sunny Paris on Saturday evening and made our way over to the Hotel in Ecole Militarie. We spent the evening getting organised for our trip out to Disneyland, had a lovely dinner in Rue Cler and finally made our way over to the Eiffle Tower. It was a cold night and there were alot of couples there and the queues were crazy, hence we didn't make it up to to the tower. Never mind we will just have to come back! After a good nights sleep we headed out and the day was stunning. We arrived into the hotel at 10.30am and left our bags with the lovely staff there and made our way over to the Disneyland Village and Park first. .......TBC

About Me!

Worker Bee and Academic and "twin" you see... who truely loves life, driving, cooking (Nigella watch out), dancing and gardening...Music.. all types of music..the list is massive.

Salsa & Tango dancing are the most passionate form of dancing around at the moment...in Galway Cuba on Wedneday night is the best!

With repects to being a gardening wanna be....Monty Don or Diarmuid Gavin "Please" call if you ever want an apprentice.
I love having the garden as an extension of the house....lanterns, candles and good company a must. Anyone who knows me also knows my door is always open...i love to sit and chat on the deck with the laptop hooked up to "You Tube" or My Playlists. I love my family, friends and extensions of, who love & support me.

Travel is also a weakness of mine...give me an excuse and I'm gone! Cinque Terra in Italy....a piece of heaven (well anywhere in Italy is a must)! Driving....yes give me a decent car with plenty of power and I'm gone! If their is one thing I know I'm good at it is being a damn good driver...Top Gear are you there???

Finally, my daughter...Misha..a truely special gift...typical Cancerian...sensitive, talented and brainy, 4 going on 21! Thank you for grounding me in this life.....xxx

Twinship

Unless you are a twin you just won't understand the whole thing. Its like going on holidays to Australia and trying to describe where you were to your friends afterwards. Well its easier in someways to explain Australia because you will have pictures and stuff to help you.

With twins its hard to explain the whole closeness, friendship and understanding that exists between us. It is such a wonderful gift to have a twin...she is my confident, best friend, sister and greatest supporter. I think it is harder for a twin to find their "soulmate" or "the one" and I am so glad that B has Mike!

Sometimes people think we tell each other everything....we don't but we understand most everything that is going on for each other. If I could ask for anything in my lifetime I would wish that I will always have that one fine thread in my life....it is one of the best!

My Misha's Name.......the origin!

I was 12 years old when I saw the movie "White Nights", but it wasn't until I saw the interview on the making of the movie that I knew if I ever had a daughter that her name would be Misha. Helen Mirren was talking about the role she played in the movie and also about Gregory Hynes and Mikhail Baryshnikov (famous ballet dancer from Russia...The Kirov Ballet Company) who she starred along side her. The minute she started talking about Baryshnikov it was Misha this, Misha that....fab name so I just knew.

Mikhail Baryshnikov

Nickname: Misha
His name in English means "Michael."
Height: 5' 7" (1.70 m)

Mini Biography:

Boyishly cute, diminutive and strong as a bull, but as graceful as any gazelle or swan, Mikhail Baryshnikov is a household name even to non-balletomanes. Widely considered to be one of the greatest and biggest name in dance.Mikhail began his ballet studies in his native homeland Russia at the age of 15. Despite his advanced age, he was already quite athletic as a child - he played rugby, swimming, running and soccer.

His mother was a ballet fan and decided to enroll Misha (his childhood nickname) and he quickly made up for lost time. The instructor teaching there was none other than the famed Alexander Pushkin who had tought famed Russian male dancer Rudolf Nureyev - who was already making a named for himself in America. Soon, tragically, his mother died. Misha was devastated and quickly threw himself into ballet head-first. He made friends at the school like Alexander Godunov (whom he called Sascha) and "ballerina assoluta" Natalia Makarova.Misha joined the Kirov Ballet of Lenigrad (now St. Petersburg) and his technique and balletic abilities were so great, he skipped the corps and was immediately put in a soloist position.

While Misha was doing quite well in Russia, even finding an audience fanbase, the government and dance seemed to be too limiting and frustrating for him. Like many other Russian dancers before him and after him, he would soon defect.When the Kirov was touring in Canada, Misha defected and then quickly became a member of the National Ballet of Canada. He joined the American Ballet Theatre later on and became one of theatre's most prized members. Trivia

Love at the Movies

For all you romantics out there here are a few of the best scenes from my favorite movies! I am a total romantic and wonder what it must be like to be "girl who gets the guy"......when you watch certain scenes you can really feel the power of attraction that should be there! Classic for me is the dance scene in the Horse Whisperer....the connection is wow! Another classic is "An Affair to Remember"...any of you who have watched "Sleepless in Seattle" will know what I mean!!!! "The Bridges of Madison County" portrays how having someone special for a short time can be enough....... Finally, the scene in "Bridget Jones Diary" when Bridget is leaving the "Smug marrieds" dinner party & Mr. D'arcy is telling her how he likes her.....".just the way she is"....."except for the vulgar mother, etc"....it is just fab! Anyway....if that exists I'd like to know it before I leave this earth......I have someone in mind....lovely eyes & gives a mean hug....my own Mr. D'arcy!!!!! Dec 2005.

Books

Will read most anything that has a good story, plot and has been recommended.

If it is true life it has to be descriptive and well written. Loved "Long Time Gone" by David Crosby...read it 10 years ago and still love it.

I am a multi-reader meaning I might have a few books on the go at any one time.

At the moment I am reading "Northern Lights"...Philip Pullman, "The Secret"..Rhonda Byrne (again), My Forbidden Face....Latifa, "Break No Bones"..Kathy Reich's and awaiting the new "Harry Potter"...I know!!!!

Tips for ladies.... you know!

1. Aspire to be Barbie - the cow has everything.

2. If the shoe fits - buy one in every colour.

3. Take life with a pinch of salt... a wedge of lime, and a shot of tequila.

4. In need of a support group? - Cocktail hour with the girls!

5. Go on the 30 day diet. (I'm on it and so far I've lost 23 days).

6. When life gets you down - just put on your big girl panties and deal with it.

7. Let your greatest fear be that there is no PMS and this is just my personality.

8. I know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok. They know me here.

9. Lead me not into temptation, I can find it myself.

10. Don't get your knickers in a knot, it solves nothing; and makes you walk funny.

11. When life gives you lemons - turn it into lemonade then mix it with vodka.

12. Remember every good looking; sweet, single male is someone else's ex boyfriend!

The joy of having peace in your life!

I can't tell you what is like to be in Australia, because I haven't been there. I listen to people's descriptions of it and what it feels like to live there, but you never really get it until you go there yourself. That is what it is like having peace in your life.....until you get there you never really get it! I am here now and grateful......grateful that I made the choices I made when I did, hard as it was at the time. I know that I have created a lifestyle that affords me happiness when I turn down the road to my house. I love living in Renmore and more importantly in this house. Misha is so content and happy to be here and that makes it all worth it. Her friends are nearby, so is school and the beach. In time when she is older I hope she will see I made the right choice in leaving her Dad. You have to really chose well in this life to have peace and it is worth it! 30th May 2010.

Clancy

Clancy, my beautiful dog, best buddy and the only man in my life for a long time, who always loved to see me, gave me full on kisses and slept by my legs when he wanted to be comforted, was put to sleep at 8.30pm this evening. I will miss him so much! He lasted a few extra weeks and I couldn't have asked for a nicer ...way for him to go. He was born here in this house in Renmore 91/2 years ago and died here with the help of Philip and Hans. He got a lovely buriel site out under oak trees in Claregalway with Philip so I am happy for that too.See More

Christmas in Renmore 2009!

The last day of school was Dec 22nd and the weather was frosty and fresh with a lot of ice on the roads, so a walk to school was needed to avoid any skidding! Misha had a ball as she was snug as a bug in her snow boots! I was a little bit apprehensive about the days ahead, but thankfully they were better than I had hoped!

Once the house was decorated and the tree in place, I felt that there was some festivity around and bless Misha, for without her I would probably have just sat there feeling miserable over Sophie, Bernie and Mike! Christmas is all about children and it is truly their time of year, so I was so grateful to have had the strength to create a Christmas, not just for us, but for Bernie and Mike and our respective families too. We had a lot of stuff on over the break so that was a great distraction also!

The weather was the coldest that I can remember in years and that made it so much more Christmasy! I was glad that it was a good excuse to have the fire on everyday and we lapped up having many pj mornings! Sure Misha will only be a child for a few more years and while I can have Santa, I will always make the best of it. I am the happiest I have been in years and so enjoyed waking up to glorious sunrises everyday. The view from my bedroom is enough for me to acknowledge how lucky I am to be where I am at this moment in time!

Miss Sophie Ffrench-Lally

On Nov 25th we found out that Bernie & Mike's little baby had died in the womb at 36 weeks. Our world fell apart that night, but with the help of Anne Farrel, Brendan (Mike's brother) and myself, we managed to help Bernie and Mike bring their daughter into the world with love and care. Thanks to Susan Boyles recording of "Proud" from her debut album, Bernie found the strength to deliver their baby and come to terms with losing her little girl for a unknown reason. Letting go was the hardest part of it all! It was with love, compassion and some level of understanding that helped them all deal with this terribly injust situation.

My beautiful niece, Ms. Sophie Elizabeth Ffrench-Lally was born on November 28th at 3.45am weighing 5lb 10oz. She had lovely long legs and beautiful little fingers and I am sure I would have had great fun with her if she had survived. We were all truly blessed to have her touch our lives, but we are so very sad to not have her with us anymore.

When you hear someone say "Life goes on", you don't really know its true meaning until you have to find someway for your own life to go on after the loss of a loved one. For us to lose Sophie before we had the chance to get to know her was so painful and it ripped through Bernie and Mike's plans of family life for the coming year. However, we all know that when Sophie's heart stopped beating, whilst she broke Bernie's and Mike's in two, she did in fact open up a lot of peoples heart to being able to love and care again. Miss Sophie managed to open up communication between those of us who had not talked in a long time. She never uttered a word to achieve that one......Mike's girl for sure! The more is less approach! She made us all feel and especially brought an amazing sense of calm to the whole process of organising her funeral and final journey to her resting place in Bohermore Cemetry. We didn't think it at the time, but looking back we can all clearly see that Sophie had gently slowed down the whole burial thing etc and allowed us to have a little extra time with her until it was time to say goodbye.

I am so proud of Bernie and Mike for bringing her into my life and I am so proud to be her aunty. Misha is so sad that Sophie won't be here with her, but she told me kindly today that she will be able to tell Bernie and Mike's future children all about their big sister....how lovely is that!

We will miss you sweet little angel.....lots of love Aunty J and Misha xx

Misha and the Real Ellie!

I am sure when Misha looks back on this blog in years to come she will be glad to know that I had a picture of the "Real Ellie" (who we lost in Luxembourg in 2008) and who was kindly replaced by Mary Dwyer (thank goodness) because Ellie helped Misha through our separating etc and she just wasn't ready to deal with loosing her just yet. Sometimes kids just need something they can cling to when they need reassurance and Mom or Dad aren't around. I never thought I would have believed in the power of such an item, but "Real Ellie"....thank you for being there for Misha!

Chick & the Horses.

Chick Gillan a.k.a Chick the Barber to a Galwegian, grew up with my Dad and had the oldest barbar shop in Galway up until 4 years ago. He very kindly invited me out to see his land in Headford & Moycullen and to help with the horses. I have to say it was one of the nicest days I have spent in a long time. He very kindly provided the transport, location and stories, while I supplied food and a willingness to work! I took the day off work and just went with the flow. We walked for hours, feeding the cows and horses, checking them over for any injuries, sore eyes or hoofs. We chatted and just enjoyed being away from the hussle and bussle of the city...it was amazing not to be able to hear any cars etc.

What I really learned was the value of all the help and support Chick and his wife Maureen had provided to (1) forstering children~Chick really loved all that they were able to give in the form of love, support, understanding and the encouragement to reach for your dreams! (2) helping young lads develop skills through boxing, (3) helping both girls and boys acquire the skill & joy of horse jumping/riding and (4) being supportive to friends and family when needed. I like that side of myself...I would willingly help anyone if I could! I was so happy to have had the day out with Chick to clear my head and just be in nature! Really grateful!

My Yule Log Tradition!

About 7 years ago I was watching "River Cottage" with good old Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall.......fantastic programmes....great DVD's and anyway he did a piece on the Yule log around Christmas time. Hugh followed local hedge witch Star, deep into the ancient Dorset wood in search of a yule log, traditionally burnt on Christmas Eve to bring fertility and spirit for the coming year. The old belief was that if you collected the log in the weeks before Christmas and left it beside the fire in your home it would take all the bad spirits and feelings out of the house and bring you good luck for the New Year once you burnt it. So, ever since I have gone and collected my own log and burnt it on Christmas Eve......nice way to mark the end of the year and look forward to the New!

The Yule Log

The origins of the Yule log can be traced back to the Midwinter festivals in which the Norsemen indulged in nights filled with feasting, "drinking Yule" and watching the fire leap around the log burning in the home hearth. The ceremonies and beliefs associated with the Yule log's sacred origins are closely linked to representations of health, fruitfulness and productivity. In England, the Yule was cut and dragged home by oxen or horses as the people walked alongside and sang merry songs. It was often decorated with evergreens and sometimes sprinkled with grain or cider before it was finally set alight.

Misha & Music.

For all of you who have had the pleasure of knowing this little rascal, you will also know that she loves music....just like her Mom & Dad.

I guess our earliest memories of Misha with music was when Ray would be playing Tom Baxters "Under the Thumb" in the van & she would go daft at the opening cords. She was hilarious and she was only about a year old. Even now she still would ask you to play that song first before any other on the albumn. She loves "Skybound" off Tom's new albumn... told me she loves the violin on it.....see 4 going on 21!

I would have to say that she always had the ability to switch off and relax when you put music on for her. Sarah Brightman's "Harem" DVD is one of her favorites to sit & watch. After that she has moved on to Andrea Bocelli, Dixie Chicks, Neil Young, Rod Stewart and Zero 7.

Recently, Bernie set-up Misha's own You Tube playlist and no word of a lie she will sit in her play tent in B's, cushions strewn around her and just sing & watch her own stuff.

Its a great place for a child to go when they get stressed. I believe it saved her alot during our separtion & I hope it stays with her in life!

In Sept. she will start school and wants to do piano with Nana Molloy & the school teach violin.....she told me, so I guess thats whats next! It will be great!

Dixie Chicks..2003..wonderful performers. Jools Holland...Galway Arts Festival....gifted! UB40...same festival...and in the back lounge of the Great Southern Hotel for a late night session...unreal! Melissa Etheridge....Minneappolis 1994...powerful! K.D.Lang.....1996....Salthill...great performer..really funny with the audience. Rod Stewart......Songbook! Tom Baxter...Galway Arts Festivals...wonderful. Sting.....sexy! U2....Croke Park....blew me away! George Michael......hilarious with the audience..Dec '06. Sarah Brightman....."Harem"...spectacular! Too many more!

Finally....I went back to college last year to study Psychology, Philosophy, Social & Political Science and Maths but have decided to take the year out in 2007/08 as I have too much on. NUI Galway is a great University. Would love to work in Neuropsychology and use my BSc. degree in Chemistry along side Psychology to achieve this. Its all for the taking. I will go back next year to study Psychology & Maths for my final subjects....after that who knows! I love Maths (always did in school & yes I am good at them) and Chess along side a good game of darts...great de-stressers.

Ellie & Clancy.....the story of!

Well Ellie and Clancy are now 7 years old and they truely are great companions. Maddie their mom and Mollie their sister live with Bernie. They came into this world by way of saving Maddies life, but in all fairness have enriched ours...thank you Chester. They have kept me fit and sane over the last number of years,by going to the beach or to the woods daily and have managed to introduce me to all our neighbours too! Having Dalmatians does raise eyebrows at the best of times....try walking 4 of them! Anyway, I love them both x x

Television

Ok obviously I am a dedicated "Later with Jools Holland" fan and that has to be first on my list. I saw David Gilmour with Crosby & Nash doing "On an Island" last season....wow!

Next I would have to say "Live from Abbey Road"...thank you for the fab sessions...The Killers...John Mayer...Josh Groban....etc.

After that it is fairly boring....Casualty (English ER), CSI, Silent Witness, Waking the Dead, Messiah or any of those types of programmes.

Loved The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew as a child along side Wonder Woman, The Six Million Dollar Man, Island of the Golden Monkey, China Beach and Moonlighting.

Finally, Remington Steele and Moonlighting......I loved the Chase between "Maddie Hayes & Dave" and also "Remington Steele & Laura Holt"......true romantic me!
